Self-Service Border Control Gates Introduced at Naples Airport

Automated border control e-gates have officially made their way to Italy’s Naples International Airport. The service is currently available to only European Union travelers.

NAPLES-INTERNATIONAL-AIRPORT, NAPLES-AIRPORT, E-GATES, ABCGATES, AIRPORT-SECURITY, FACIAL-TECHNOLOGYThe airport partnered with SITA, an international leader in air transport communications and information technology, to implement its iBorders BorderAutomation Automated Border Control (ABC) Gates. The e-gates have made the immigration process at Naples International Airport a smooth, “walk through” experience. SITA reports the machines’ processing time at 20 seconds per passenger and estimates than upwards of 2,000 travelers will use the e-gates every day.

The Director of Infrastructure and Operations at Naples International Airport said, “The new technology has helped improve the passenger experience at Naples Airport by speeding them through immigration while ensuring that we meet the highest security standards at Italy’s borders. The ABCGates are really a win-win technology for airports.

The ABCGates use facial recognition technology, to confirm the identity of the passport holder. The machines are supplemented with fingerprint verification technology to be used in situations when additional security is required.
