MEET-AND-GREET,-AIRPORT-CONCIERGE,-AIRPORT-MEET-AND-GREET,-AIRPORT-ASSISTANCE,-AIRPORT-ESCORT,3While most travelers dread time spent in the airport and cringe at the thought of being delayed for hours, some U.S. airports have gone the extra mile in creating facilities that are accommodating, fun, and comfortable.

Travel and Leisure has asked readers annually since 2013 to vote for their favorite airport hubs across the world, ranking them on access, check-in/security, restaurants/bars, shopping, and design. Portland International Airport (PDX) has been ranked number one for the fourth consecutive year, with a score that increases steadily each year.

PDX can thank its navigability, stellar on-time departure reputation, and diverse amenities, from international cuisine to Portland-minded shopping options, for its consistently high ranking among travelers. “Kudos to the designers and the Port of Portland for an airport that is user-friendly, open, airy, and efficient,” wrote one Travel and Leisure survey taker.

With its efficient design and easy navigation, PDX is more than just a fan favorite. Pilots and flight attendants also love stopping in Portland, reporting that their time there is always enjoyable and the travel experience in and out of the airport seamless.

All of the Travel and Leisure’s best airports share the type of design that makes the travel process quick and painless. Tampa International Airport (TPA), which has been consistently ranked in the top three domestic airports since 2013, is known for its maneuverability. The experience in Tampa is so seamless that one respondent said, “I will pay more for flights here because it is simply easy to navigate.”

Nashville International Airport (BNA) is among the fan favorites for its hospitality, especially dining and entertainment. Fresh and local ingredients are the stars of many of Nashville International’s dining options; but, it is the live music throughout the airport that make traveling through Music City and unforgettable experience.

The top ten international airports, according to Travel and Leisure’s most recent survey, are: No. 10 Portland International Jetport (PWM) in Maine, No. 9 Nashville International Airport (BNA), No. 8 Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT), No. 7 John Wayne Airport (SNA) in Santa Ana, California, No. 6 Dallas Love Field (DAL), No. 5 Minneapolis St. Paul International Airport (MSP), No. 4 Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) in Texas, No. 3 Tampa International Airport (TPA), No. 2 Indianapolis International Airport (IND), and No. 1 Portland International Airport (PDX).
